| Storyline: | Sgt. Nicholas Angel is just about the perfect copper: honest, reliable, and dedicated to public duty. The only problem is that he is too good. This movie, from the creators of Shawn of the Dead, plows some of the same territory, but adds some acerbic social commentary to the mix. It is a clear homage to the buddy cop movies which have proliferated over the past 20 years, but it is also a comment on the sometimes corrosive, excessive, civic pride, almost incestuous in its intense devotion to all things local, in England specifically in this case, but it could be translated to other communities anywhere. It is very very funny and pointed, but this satire was not at all hinted at in the movie's marketing. The tribute to the banal buddy buddy cop movies of the last while is sometimes so broad and obvious that it is sometimes almost a re-make, but that said, it is nice that someone (director Edgar Wright and star Simon Pegg, who co-wrote the movie with Wright) recognize the pervasiveness of the genre. The story is that London police officer Nicholas Angel (a rather playful and unlikely name played by writer Simon Pegg) is exiled to the countryside because of his overly industrious ways and the fact that his industriousness revealed the laziness of the police. Once out in the countryside, he disrupts the routine of small town life by cracking down on small-time crime. He also, however, investigates a series of gruesome murders which the locals attempt to downplay but which he believes (correctly) are related. In so doing, he treads on the toes of many of the locals who have lived there for a long time and who feel they have some claim on the life of the community, to a much more literal extent than he might have anticipated. The acting is fine. No great performances are required. The satiric script drives the film and it is a very intriguing and clever plot. It is an interesting and amusing film with more layers to it than is suggested by the marketing.

I really enjoyed this. It was an engaging story and the same kind of character observation as Shaun of the Dead. It was also good to see Pegg and Frost working together again. I was trying to think of the British-ness of it, as so many guys had commented on, and guess it was the parochial way they look at life. Could easily was this again. 5/5

A very enjoyable film even if one isn't a fan of British comedy. Well written, well cast, and has lots of funny scenes.

why would you even compare it to shaun of the dead.. this is a whole differnt type of movie .. just like you dont compare bad boys to night of the living dead.. plus great acting and what a way to end a movie.. and lot of action in th end!

I'M TYPICALLY BRITISH, SO I CAN COMPLETLY UNDERSTAND THE COMEDY. I THINK THESE TWO MAKE A FANTASTIC DOUBLE ACT,AND REALLY OUGHT TO DO MORE ALONG THESE LINES. I THOUGHT THEY'D HAVE A TOUGH JOB OUT DOING SHAWN OF THE DEAD, BUT THEY HAVE FAR SUPPASSED THEMSELVES IN THIS ONE. A MUST SEE FOR ANY COMEDY FAN, AND, IF YOU'RE NOT, WATCH IT ANYWAY, I'M SURE YOU'LL LIKE IT. For more great movies, check out my play lists.

Long live Britian comedy mate!
This film has high and lows with some twist not foreseen, in short it a cross the pond humor..

I'm Canadian and I thought it was hilarious! I only listened as i worked and went to bed before the end but I took the time to watch the whole thing again the next morning. It was worth the time. 4/5

this movie deserves at least an 8. Its mostly a parody on all the cop and buddy movies out there. There is the over the top action, there is the british humor (which is not everyones taste but still..) and the typical bizarre ways of dying.
In my opinion definitly worth a watch..or more

after watching SPACED (tv) and Shaun of the Dead, I HAD to watch this - so glad I did - brilliant and funny and seeing the same actors again was great!

Awesome film - Pegg and Frost are so funny and have a great chemistry. NOTE TO EVERYONE ABOUT TO WATCH THIS: The first and second Megavideo links are absolutely AWFUL quality but the #10 link is perfect quality.

This really was a great movie, full of action comedy and great acting. I liked the flow of it from beginning to end, it even has a black humor goriness that gives it a hint of realism that has you saying, "ouch, that's really gonna leave a scar"
