If you've never seen a boxing film, this is as good a place as any to start. World champ Billy Hope falls from grace and almost falls apart, but somehow pulls it back together for one more crack at the title. It's a bit of a fairy story to be sure, but made believable by the performance of Gyllenhaal, who is pretty impressive. The rest of the generic cast fulfill their part, and I thought the boxing was filmed well. Now go and watch Million Dollar Baby and Raging Bull. 4/5

Jake Gyllenhaal was epic in this sports flick, i have to say it was moving thus i am not a fan for tear jerking moments. The movie was brilliant however not original, i have seen lots of boxing movies like all of the Rocky sequels, and Cinderella Man just to name a few. This isn't Rocky, much less Raging Bull. But, somehow, Southpaw pulls off that weird, difficult trick of being predictable but compelling at the same time. I will recommend this movie to anyone, so ill give this film a 9.5/10, enjoy!

Good movie, lots of bad language, so make sure no kids around when you watch it. Jakes character has a bad case of the mumbles sometimes, so I turned my volume up. 4/5

Great movie! Very touching story. Well played by all, especially the daughter! I love Forest's eye! It draw attention away from the laziness.
